USDA Under Secretary working on biotech corn ban

January 19, 2023 By Carah Hart Filed Under: News, Trade

In her first three weeks on the job, USDA Under Secretary for Trade Alexis Taylor says she has been spending time on Mexico’s biotech corn ban. She tells Brownfield the Biden administration is still not happy with Mexico’s latest proposal.

“Quite clearly, from our perspective the changes proposed continue to raise concerns under that science-based approach.”

Taylor says growing crops in a changing climate will take innovation and technology and the Biden administration relayed those fundamental concerns to counterparts in Mexico. She says the USDA is working with the USTR on the next steps in the process.
