Rep. Nunn has optimistic farm bill outlook
U.S. Congressman Zach Nunn says he’s optimistic lawmakers will finalize the 2023 Farm Bill before the end of the year.
“I have asked GT Thompson, the Chairman himself, if we can get this done by September,” Nunn said. “He believes very confidently we have a pathway here to be successful.”
The Iowa Republican tells Brownfield the August recess will be critical. “We have begun drafting the hard work of crafting good legislation,” he said. “I’ll be working all through the August (recess) in my district here in Iowa to be able to move the legislation forward so that at the beginning of September I can start a mark up process on the bill.”
Nunn says farmers and ranchers need certainty. “The longer we kick this down the road, the greater uncertainty we have in everything from crop insurance to funding on the innovation side and to the checkoff program.”
The current farm bill expires September 30th.
