Northwest Ohio farmer expects harvest to kick off next week
Harvest is just around the corner for Northwest Ohio Farmer Ryan Mohr.
“We always like to take a little bit of an early premium on corn and start earlier if we can,” he says. “We’re planning to start corn on Monday. For soybeans, we’ve been proactive about the early April planting. We’ve used early maturities and I believe they’ll go next week as well.”
The fourth-generation farmer says the crops are looking good.
“It’s going to be above average,” he says. “We had some heat in June that took some top-end off the corn and we had some rain early on that stunted some of the soybeans. Overall we should end up alright.”
Brownfield spoke with Mohr this week during the Ohio Farm Bureau Washington D.C. Leadership Experience.
Mohr is Vanwert County Farm Bureau vice president and Van Wert County Junior Fair coordinator.
