More federal dollars to Dairy Innovation Initiatives
The success of the four regional Dairy Innovation Initiatives has led to more federal investment.
USDA Undersecretary for Marketing and Regulatory Programs Jenny Lester Moffitt tells Brownfield another 23 million dollars has been invested in the program created in the 2018 Farm Bill. “Total investments are 170 million dollars in these Dairy Business Innovation Centers around the country. We heard from producers how important it is to invest in them, to invest in them to be able to actually invest in their ideas to bring new value opportunities to their farms.”
Lester Moffitt says the funding goes towards research and new innovations in dairy production. “But, also directly to farmers to be able to innovate in product development, whether that could be packaging machinery, whether that could be food safety, whether that could be innovations on their operation.”
Lester Moffitt says the Dairy Business Initiatives program shows the partnership between federal and state government and using federal and private dollars can achieve incredible things. Lester Moffitt spoke to Brownfield at the 2023 World Dairy Expo in Madison, Wisconsin.
