Livestock Forage Program sign-up open through January
Sign-up for the Farm Service Agency’s Livestock Forage Program is open through the end of January. Missouri FSA State Executive Director Joe Aull says livestock producers in more than 50 counties are eligible.
“This provides financial assistance to help settle losses livestock producers had during the drought. We’re trying at FSA to speed up the sign-up process at the county level. Offices are taking appointments.”
Aull says south of I-70 seemed to have the most damage because of drought conditions.
“Especially in southwest Missouri. So many of those counties in that area hit the D3 level on the drought monitor so they are eligible. A lot of northern Missouri counties got good moisture, but it varies throughout the state.”
Dry conditions have improved across Missouri in the last three months, but the latest U.S. Drought Monitor says 63% of the state has dry conditions, up slightly from previous weeks. For more details about the LFP and other drought programs available through the FSA, click here.
