Lawmakers propose expanding Wisconsin farmer-led watershed eligibility

A group of Wisconsin lawmakers wants to expand the eligibility guidelines for the farmer-led watershed protection grants.

Now, the Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection administers watershed protection grants to producer-led groups made up of at least five operators of eligible farms within the same watershed.  Assembly Bill 65 would allow farm operators from adjacent watersheds to be part of the group.  The bill also further defines watersheds to standards used by the U.S. Geological Survey.

The bill has been introduced and referred to the Assembly Committee on Environment.
