Iowa reports first case of high-path avian flu in 7 months

Iowa is the latest state to report a detection of highly pathogenic avian influenza.

The Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship along with USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) confirms a positive case of the virus in a northwest Iowa commercial turkey flock.

The case in Buena Vista County is the first for Iowa since mid-March but there have been several detections of avian flu in neighboring states South Dakota and Minnesota since the beginning of the month.
