Farmer sees drought improvement in southwest Iowa
Southwest Iowa farmer Dave McGargill says drought conditions have improved after some timely rain events this summer.
“We received about six inches of rain at the end of June and the first week of July,” he said. “Since then, we have picked up another two and a half inches or so.”
He tells Brownfield crop stress was his biggest concern at the start of the growing season. “I don’t know how but (the crops) have turned around,” he said. “Everything is green and lush here now. I don’t know, being as dry as it was, how it’s going to affect the yields.”
McGargill raises corn and soybeans in Fremont County.
