Eastern Iowa farmer hoping for a repeat in 2023

An eastern Iowa farmer says he’s optimistic about the growing season after having one of his best corn crops ever in 2022.

Lance Lillibridge says he’s over a week away from planting.

“We’re going to start putting on ammonia and fertilizer and doing some light prep for planting,” he said. “It will probably be 10 or 12 days before we start planting. We’re going to make sure the soil temperatures are good.”

He tells Brownfield moisture has been adequate. “I wouldn’t say that we’re dry, but I wouldn’t say that we’re wet by any means either.”

Lillibridge raises corn, alfalfa, and red angus cattle in Benton County.
