A wide-range of weather ahead from intense heat South to organized Corn Belt rains
Re-intensifying heat in the south-central U.S. will expand to other areas, including the Desert Southwest and the Gulf Coast States, by early next week. In contrast, cooler-than-normal conditions will linger in parts of the West and from the lower Great Lakes States into the Northeast.

During the next several days, a low-pressure system crossing the nation’s northern tier could deliver much-needed rainfall, locally 1 to 2 inches or more, across the northern Corn Belt, from the Dakotas to Michigan.

However, little or no rain will fall across much of the southern Corn Belt.

Mostly dry weather will also prevail in the Pacific Coast States, Great Basin, Southwest, and Rio Grande Valley, while lingering showers in the Atlantic Coast States could result in an additional 1 to 3 inches of rain.
